Cuttyhunk Harbor Jetties
Cuttyhunk Harbor, Mass.
Construction and Rehabilitation History
Date(
During this period the north and south rubble-mound jetties,
approximately 520 and 280
long, respectively, were constructed and
1935
maintained by the State of Massachusetts (Figure 35).
In 1937 the Federal government adopted the Cuttyhunk Harbor Project,
which included maintenance of the jetties. In 1939, repairs were
1939
to the north jetty using 5 0 tons of stone at a cost of
0
,600. The repairs restored the crown elevation to
ft mlw.
The north jetty was repaired using approximately 1,800 tons of stone
1951
at a cost of ,400. The stone ranged in size from 0.5 to 8 tons
and was placed to an elevation of
mlw,
side slopes, and
a 3- to 5-ft crown width.
Visual inspections indicated the north jetty was in good condition,
and the south jetty was in very poor condition. During the early
1977
recommendations were made which included repair of the south
jetty, and subsequent repairs were made.
Annual visual inspections indicated the jetties were in good
1986
condition.
